Habitat: North America

Scientific Names: Quercus rubra, Quercus borealis

Common Names: Oak Wood, Red Oak

Uses: Furniture making, lumber, veneer, wine barrel making

Characteristics: Hardwood with a long history in furniture making due to hardness and moisture stability characteritcs.

Grain and Texture Patterns: Reddish in color with visible dark flecks depending on the matter of it's cut; rift, plain, or quarter sawn.

Hardness: janka hardness: 1290

The term oak can be used as part of the common name of any of several hundred species of trees and shrubs in the genus Quercus, and some related genera, notably Cyclobalanopsis and Lithocarpus . The genus is native to the northern hemisphere.
